During the Warmoes Biennale, artist collective mul-thee-fuhngk-shuh-nl will engage in conversation with waiting customers and passersby about well-being. What is the current state of affairs in Amsterdam's city center? What factors influence this? Stories, perspectives, and ideas on this topic will be gathered during three pop-up newsrooms at the Effeness parcel shop, Happy Inn Laundromat, and Order Tattoo Shop. The findings will be published in three publications, which can be found in the participating pavilions of the Warmoes Biennale.
For the second editorial room, mul-thee-fuhngk-shuh-nl is settling in for a day at tattoo parlor ORDER Tattoos. A place where people sit for extended periods or wait for their turn. A good opportunity to discuss meaning, because what does that even mean in a post-capitalist system? We're gathering definitions of meaning, exploring how people think of themselves as meaningful, and where the desire for meaning comes from. We're collecting stories, thoughts, wishes, the sense of meaning in Warmoesstraat, tips and tricks for finding meaning, classified ads, and historical context about the welfare economy.
In the newsroom and in the publications, we will explore how we can view our surroundings differently while waiting. The Warmoes and its surroundings serve as a playground for imagining new ways of being and other uses for space beyond the functional. The newsrooms and the publications are places where we look at things differently, question the environment, search for something that isn't there, and create our own representations.
