On March 18 the Municipal Elections are being held. The Warmoes Biënnale values the City Centre as the political heart of the city. Together with the Municipality of Amsterdam and Stichting Voor Democratie, we host an event in the run up to the elections.
The event takes the form of an open, collegetour-style conversation in the heart of Amsterdam. A single guest with political experience engages in dialogue with a group of young adults, primarily MBO/ROC students from across the city. There is no debate format or set positions to defend; instead, the focus is on asking questions, sharing lived experiences, and practicing attentive listening in an accessible, informal setting.
Hosting this event in the city centre is essential because the centre functions as a place of encounter, discovery, and emancipation. It is where many young people first experience that the city—and the political decisions shaping it—extend beyond their own neighbourhoods and directly concern them. By bringing this conversation into the public heart of Amsterdam, the Biennale emphasizes that politics is not distant or abstract, but something that belongs to everyone, and that participation is both possible and welcome.
